6 Proven ways to Speed up Blogger blog Ultimate Guide 2022

This article will discuss how to speed up the Blogger website and get 90+ PageSpeed Insights score.

Google has announced that it will consider core web vitals as the ranking factors from mid-June 2021. This means website speed will be a ranking factor. Therefore, we should work on website speed to maintain or improve search engine rankings.

Speed up Blogger blog

The Blogger is a product of Google and backed by fast speed servers. Unfortunately, Blogger Blogspot users can’t access the root files of the CMS to enhance the server rules. But luckily, we can use the following methods to speed up the Blogger website.

1. Compress Images or Serve Next-Gen Images

The media files used in the blog should be lightweight. You may consider compressing the image before uploading it. This practice will drastically improve the speed of the Blogger blog.

Suppose you’ve uploaded an image of 1MB to your blog, and the user’s internet speed is 30kB, then it will take approximately 35 seconds to load the image only. At the same time, if the image size is 60kB, it will take only 2 seconds. So for a slow network connection, the speed will increase approximately 18 times.

How to compress images?

To compress an image, you can use websites like TinyPNG or Compressor.io. This compressor doesn’t change the quality of the image for the web.

The above interface is of the Tinypng image compressor. You can drop your image in the drag box and download the image from the download link generated with the compressed image.

  1. Upload the raw image in the drop image box, as shown above,
  2. Compression will auto start as you upload the image. You can download the compressed size image.

Try to keep the image size less than 100kB. You can follow this guide to serve Next-Gen images to the Blogger CMS.

2. Remove Unnecessary Widget.

Suppose you’re using a lot of widgets for the Blogger blog. It would be best if you remove unused or unnecessary widgets. For example, some website uses Facebook page widget on their website. However, the Facebook Page widget reduces the speed of Blogger blog. Therefore, we advise you to remove this widget.

You can create a Contact Us form page for the Blogger blog replacing the Contact Us form widget. As a result, it will reduce the size of every page that will enhance the page speed score.

Suppose you use any third-party widget for the blog. Then try to add such widgets in the footer section to avoid the render-blocking and speed up the Blogger blog.

3. Remove unused Javascript and CSS.

Blogger generates some javascript and CSS files for the legacy template. But in modern templates, this CSS and JS are not used and reserve extra space. Unfortunately, these CSS files also cause render-blocking to the page. So it would be best if you considered removing these tags.

To remove unused javascript and CSS, you can add b:css='false' b:js='false' in the HTML tag, as shown below.

<html b:css='false' b:defaultwidgetversion='2' b:js='false' b:layoutsVersion='3' b:responsive='true' b:templateVersion='1.3.0' expr:class='data:blog.languageDirection' expr:dir='data:blog.languageDirection' xmlns='http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml' xmlns:b='http://www.google.com/2005/gml/b' xmlns:data='http://www.google.com/2005/gml/data' xmlns:expr='http://www.google.com/2005/gml/expr'>

4. Don’t use too many fonts.

Too many fonts take a lot of time to load from the internet. So consider using the system fonts or load-only required fonts. You can also use font: display style while loading the font to swap properties. This practice will improve the stability and enhance the Cumulative Layout Display score of the website.

If you can’t understand the above term, try to load only 1 or 2 fonts for your website. This will enhance the speed of the Blogger blog.

5. Adsense Slowing down the website speed.

After getting the Adsense Approval, you can make money with your Blogger blog. But at the same time, Adsense slows down your website. And there are various methods available to speed up your website but not with Adsense.

I tried a lot of ways to speed up the Blogger blog but can’t see any effect. My website PageSpeed Insights score with and without Adsense always remains near 94 and 31, respectively.

The Adsense script is synchronously loaded, but still, it blocks the page resources. So we can execute the Adsense script when the page load is complete. If you don’t know how to do this, follow our guide on speed up website that uses AdSense ads.

6. Install a Fast Template for the Blogger blog.

The Blogger template provides a unique design to the blog that enhances the user experience and search engine optimization. But not every template is the same. Some are of only good design or well optimized for a search engine or SEO. Along with these two, the template must be fast to load. So before applying any theme, you should check the theme for

  • Speed of the Template,
  • UI(User Interface) and UX(User Experience),
  • SEO of the theme e.g. HTML5 and Schema Markup support.

You may consider installing the TezzBlog Blogger theme for the Blogger blog, including all three features discussed above. In addition, this theme is free from render-blocking resources and also uses the latest version of jquery.

Additional Tip

After following the above tips, you will experience that the pages are loading faster than before. In addition, you can check the PageSpeed insights score before and after applying all the settings.

We advise you to check the homepage and the pages and posts in the PageSpeed insight test tool. As the PageSpeed score of blog posts and pages are crucial to rank in the search results.
